Case 13: ARRRRRGGHHGGH!

27th May 2002

Filed by: Officer Taylor

The Offence

Friday 18th May 2001, the Guardian's article Why the Balkans need Nato quotes Czech president Vaclav Havel:

Yielding to some geopolitical or geostrategic interests of Russia [...] would be the worst thing that the alliance could do in this respect. It would amount to returning to [...] the old principle of dividing the world and nations irregardless of their will.

The Verdict

``IRREGARDLESS'' IS NOT A WORD!

The Sentence

DEATH, DEATH, DEATH!

(Not to Havel, who is a non-native speaker of English, but to the Guardian editors, for failing to do their job.)

Next case!
